The Golden Spike linking the eastern and western segments of the Great Transcontinental Railway was driven into the railroad ties in Promontory Summit, Utah, linking East and West on May 10, 1869. And that's just one of the historic facts that will make your days at a Utah college or university interesting. Utah has a long and vibrant history, starting with tens of thousands of years of Native American settlement. The long wagon trains moving Americans west in the Gold Rush and beyond crossed Utah, and perhaps its most celebrated settlers were the Mormons, who found sanctuary at last in 1846, after many years of continued exile and oppression as they wandered across the country.

Today, the strong influence of the significant Mormon population makes Utah an industrious and self-reliant state, where neighbors look out for neighbors, and everyone does their best to make strangers feel welcome. Attending college in Utah is likely to be a memorable and valuable experience.

Utah Colleges: Barbering, Barber Degrees

Find the right training to become a professional barber. Whether you want a program that focuses solely on barbering, or a cosmetology program that can give you a wider range of skills.

In most states, educational requirements for barbers include a high school diploma or GED and completion of an accredited barber training program, such as the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS). Training programs are offered through cosmetology or barber schools and often take between nine months and two years to complete, depending on whether students choose full- or part-time programs.

Barber school curriculum covers such basics as haircutting, hairstyling, shaving and beard trimming. Students are also trained in beard design, hair piece fitting and hair coloring. In addition to learning how to apply chemical treatments, students learn about detecting scalp and hair diseases.

Barbering offers an opportunity to earn an exceptional income. Many Barbers are their own boss and get paid every day. Many Barbers earn more than individuals with a 4 year college degree. The opportunity for an above average income potential can be yours. As a Barber you decide how hard you want to work and how much you want to earn. The choice is yours.
