The right code for employment

Billing and coding jobs can be for large organizations or small private offices. They can also sometimes be done from home. Physicians' offices employ the largest number of billing and coding professionals with an annual, mean wage of $30,100. General medical and surgical hospitals pay a slightly higher rate of $39,800.

You can also work for offices of other health care practitioners, outpatient care centers, or general merchandise stores. The top-paying industries in the field are psychiatric and substance abuse hospitals, which pay an annual, mean wage of $39,200 and dental offices, which pay an annual mean of around $36,900.

California hosts the highest employment rate for these jobs, as well as the highest concentration of medical assistant jobs. But Alaska and the District of Columbia are the top-paying locations for this profession.
