In the same way that Springfield, Ore., is nestled between two rivers, it's also nestled between two lifestyles: suburb and city. This town of 60,000 pulls off the combination well and proves you can have a vibrant city-life during the day and a cozy neighborhood at night while also pursuing your higher education.

Pioneer Pacific College, which specializes in associate degrees, is one career college that offers higher-ed learning in Springfield. At this campus, students can earn associate degrees and diplomas in nine fields of study that include accounting, computer networking, practical nursing, and many others.

Located less than four miles away, in Eugene, is the University of Oregon. The University of Oregon has about 25,000 students and offers 268 academic programs at all degree levels and in most subjects. The school boasts ethnic diversity, with 17.6 percent of students representing non-white races, and a high graduation success rate, with 80 percent of students landing jobs or continuing their education within six months of graduation. Tuition costs $8,700 a year for in-state students and $27,500 for out-of-state students, 2011-12. There are other colleges located within driving distance of Springfield including Lane Community College and Oregon State University. It's always smart to consider the cost of tuition and fees when planning for your education. According to The College Board, the average tuition and fees in Oregon for the 2011-12 academic year were $4,029 for public two-year colleges, $7,988 for public four-year colleges, and $31,827 for private nonprofit four-year schools.
