Lebanon, Pa., Colleges and Universities

Lebanon is a city of about 25,000 residents located in central Pennsylvania at almost equal distances from Harrisburg, Lancaster and Reading. From historic downtown architecture to hundreds of acres of parkland for nature-lovers, Lebanon offers something for everyone.

Lebanon colleges

Lebanon Valley College is a private, non-profit 4-year institution located five miles from the city center that offers a diverse collection of degrees at all levels of higher education. Along with its 35 available undergraduate majors, Lebanon Valley College provides teaching certifications and pre-professional programs in various disciplines to a student body of more than 2,000 individuals. Tuition rates are comparable to the statewide average of $32,559 per year for similar institutions.

Harrisburg Area Community College, or HACC, is the city's top public institution, offering certificates and two-year degrees to more than 23,000 students of all ages. HACC also serves between 5,000 and 6,000 people with its distance education and online courses and boasts the second-highest number of armed service veterans on its student rolls. In-district tuition rates for Pennsylvania students at two-year colleges averaged $3,663 for the 2011-12 academic year.

Lebanon economy

Lebanon is home to a growing job market with the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicating a 2.4 percent increase in employment opportunities between September 2010 and September 2011. The production and materials transportation industries compose the largest chunk of the Lebanon workforce, combining to provide employment for more than 22 percent of the local population. Office and administrative support occupations make up the largest individual economic sector in Lebanon, employing nearly 15 percent of workers in the city as of March 2012.
