Melrose Park, Pa., is an unincorporated section of Pennsylvania's Cheltenham Township, located on the Philadelphia city line. Since its incorporation in 1900, Cheltenham Township has come to include many communities, such as Melrose Park, each that offers it own unique character and distinct feel.

Located within the boundaries of Melrose Park is Gratz College, one of the premier Jewish universities in the U.S. Gratz College focuses on master's and doctoral degrees, with 851 of the 1,002 students on the rolls for 2012 studying at the graduate level. However, several bachelor's degrees and professional certificate programs are offered. Students at Gratz typically pay less than the statewide average of $32,559 per year for private four-year institutions.

Philadelphia's Temple University is located just three miles from Melrose Park and offers more than 300 degree programs to a student body of 37,000-plus students. These programs include 167 master's and 80 doctoral degree offerings. Temple is the 28th largest university in the country and annual tuition for in-state students is comparable to the yearly average of $12,079 for public four-year colleges all across the state.

Unemployment is on the decline in Melrose Park, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting a drop in the percentage of unemployed area residents between February 2011 and February 2012. Office and administrative positions represent the largest portion of area employment, a nearly 18 percent share. Sales occupations and food preparation and service jobs represent approximately 11 and 8 percent of area employment, respectively.
