Tannersville, Pa., is a small town with the offerings of a medium-sized city. With only 2,700 people, Tannersville has plenty to offer residents in terms of college and career opportunities especially since it is part of the larger Monroe County.

Tannersville colleges to choose from

Northampton Community College has a campus in Tannersville. This college of more than 16,000 students offers associate degrees in over 100 academic fields of study ranging from early childhood education to business administration. The school boasts a near 90 percent success rate for students finding a job within a year of graduation. Tuition costs $5,700 a year for in-state students and $11,000 for out-of-state students.

Located 10 miles away in East Stroudsburg is East Stroudsburg University. A school of more than 6,000 students, East Stroudsburg University offers more than 50 undergraduate and 22 graduate degree programs in subjects such as art and design and exercise science. Tuition costs about $6,200 for in-state students and $15,600 for out-of-state students.

Nearly 25 percent of residents in Monroe County possess a bachelor's degree or higher. However, college costs vary depending on the academic path of choice. According to The College Board, in-state 2011-12 tuition and fees were $3,663 for public two-year colleges, $12,079 for public four-year colleges, and $32,559 for private nonprofit four-year colleges.

Some of the major employers include Tobyhanna Army Depot, Pocono Medical Center, and Mount Airy Casino Resort. The median household income is just over $55,000.
