Pasadena, Texas is a great place to work, study, and play. Even though this city of about 150,000 people is just 15 miles from Houston, residents don't need to leave the city to go to college or land a great job.

The University of Houston-Clear Lake is located in Pasadena. The university has nearly 100 programs, at all degree levels, and boasts having a nearly 50 percent non-white student population. Also, tuition is low, at only $6,500 a year for in-state students and $9,500 for out-of-state students.

You can't beat San Jacinto College when it comes to low tuition, however. With more than 13,000 students at its Pasadena campus, this community college offers an education at only $1,500 a year for in-state students and $1,900 for out-of-state students.
