Quantico, Va. Colleges and Universities

Quantico, Va. defines small-town America. A town of only 480 residents just 15 miles from La Plata and 20 miles from Fredericksburg, residents of Quantico enjoy the business and educational offerings of their neighbors without losing out on their small-town treasures.

Quantico colleges

The closest college to Quantico is The College of Southern Maryland, in La Plata, Md. A community college of 24,000 students, CSM offers associate degrees and certificates in more than 100 programs of study, such as medical assisting, photography, and engineering technology. Even if you are a Virginia resident, tuition is only $3,500 a year.

Just a short 30-minute drive from Quantico is Fredericksburg, home of the University of Mary Washington. A school of over 5,000 students -- 20 percent of whom are minorities -- UMW offers more than 40 programs of study, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In-state tuition is only $8,900 a year and out-of-state tuition is $20,534 a year. Drive a little further and you find several options, ranging from George Mason University to Georgetown University, in Washington D.C. Why would Quantico need a college in town when it has so many great neighbors?

Quantico economy

The top employer in Quantico is the U.S. Marine Corps Base, employing most of the town. The base surrounds the perimeter of the city. Also in town are more than 50 places of business, ranging from small mom-and-pop shops to a Bank of America. Ultimately, tourists boast about Quantico's nostalgic feel, and residents enjoy the town's offerings without the hustle of its bigger town neighbors.
