Pulaski County is a county located in the US Commonwealth of Kentucky. Based on the 2010 census, the population was 63,063. The county was founded in December 1798. The county seat is Somerset. Pulaski county is named for Polish patriot Count Kazimierz Pułaski.

Pulaski County comprises the Somerset, KY Micropolitan Statistical Area. Despite having a city population of just over 11,000, the statistic is misleading, as the Micropolitan Area for Somerset/Pulaski County is approaching 64,000, as Somerset is a lonely post being one of the few south-central Kentuckian cities with over 10,000 people.

Pulaski County History

Pulaski county was formed in 1799. This county is located in the Pennyrile region of the state. In 2000 the county population was 56,217 in a land area of 661.60 square miles, an average of 85.0 people per square mile. The county seat is Somerset.

Geography: Land and Water

As reported by the Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 677 square miles (1,750 km2), of which 658 square miles (1,700 km2) is land and 19 square miles (49 km2) (2.8%) is water. The elevation in the county ranges from 723 to 1680 feet above sea level.

Pulaski county is located close to the center of Kentucky. Kentucky’s third largest geographical county and home to 3 marinas located on beautiful Lake Cumberland.
