Florida colleges and universities

There is a large assortment of public and private Florida colleges and universities, where the student population ranges from less than 200 students to nearly 57,000. Tuition ranges from $2,500 to $40,000 per year. Now that's diversity.

The Sunshine State hosts many accredited universities and colleges. These are some of the top colleges:

After graduating from a Florida college or university, you might find you want to stay in the Sunshine State. The 2009 median household income was $44,755. Florida does not charge state income tax to residents. Houses held a median value in 2009 of $211,300.

According to Florida's Labor Market Statistics, the top three occupations with the highest projected growth rate through 2019 are home health aides, network systems and data communications analysts and medical scientists. Administrative and support services, social assistance and ambulatory health care services should show increased industry growth through 2019, as well.

Like a smart investor, Florida has diversified its economy. Some strengths include international trade, the space industry, agriculture, construction, software companies and health technology. As of May 2010, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that specialized health care professionals, such as surgeons, obstetricians and internists show the greatest earnings in Florida. Among a dozen of the most prominent employers, you'll find them in at least seven sectors.

Major Florida employers in the telecommunications sector include the following three:

The following household names in entertainment, travel and tourism hire in large numbers:

Among the largest employers in the educational, health care and retail service sectors are the following five:

  1. Hillsborough County School District.
  2. University of Miami
  3. Orlando Regional Health Care System
  4. United Parcel Service
  5. Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
  6. Winn-Dixie

Florida's economy stays sturdy due to the abundance of tourists visiting each year. In addition, more than $500 million per year is invested to sponsor research at Florida universities, emphasizing a commitment to education and the ""R&D,"" so critical to the nation's ongoing success.

Outside the colleges and universities in Florida

With 1,800 miles of coastline, 1,250 golf courses and 12 international airports, the Sunshine State is a vacation destination for millions of visitors every year. From sandy beaches to Everglade swampland, you can enjoy the great outdoors in Florida. Aeronautics or science buffs frequent NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Popular urban hot spots abound from Spring Break ""Sweet Spots"" Miami and Fort Lauderdale to Tampa/St. Petersburg, Orlando and Jacksonville. Florida students really can live in a tropical paradise, while handling their educational and professional responsibilities.
