Nowhere is this contrast more apparent than in the City of New Orleans. Although the recent hurricane damaged much of the "Big Easy,"  it is certainly regaining its former luster. At which point, while attending one of Louisiana public colleges you will be able to take advantage of the active nightlife, enchanting Cajun food, and affluent multicultural history. If you live outside of the city limits, you can take advantage of the lazy afternoons, southern hospitality, and charming landscapes.

Baton Rouge, the state capital of Louisiana, is home to several of the state's top colleges, including the flagship campus of Louisiana State University. A mix of large research universities, midsize colleges and small liberal arts colleges are located throughout the state, including the cities of Shreveport, Lafayette and Monroe.

The state of Louisiana funds several public university systems. The four systems are as follows: The University of Louisiana System, The Louisiana Community and Technical College System, the Louisiana State University System and the Southern University System. Louisiana's public colleges and universities are coordinated by the Louisiana Board of Regents, Through statewide academic planning and review, budgeting and performance funding, research, and accountability, Regents coordinates the efforts of the state's 34 public colleges, universities and professional schools.

In Louisiana 81.6% people over the age of 25 have attained a high school diploma, this is 6.20% lower than the average state, 87.80%. Louisiana ranks 49th out of the 50 states in percentage of high school graduates. 21.1% people over the age of 25 have attained a bachelor's degree which is 6.00% higher than the national average, 27.10%.
