Nebraska is home to a number of public and private institutions located throughout the state. Due to the states relatively low population in relation to its size, resulting in a limited number of schools located primarily in larger more populous areas, such as the state's capital, Lincoln, and its largest cities Omaha and Bellevue.

Public institutions are governed by three overseeing bodies in Nebraska. The first, the University of Nebraska System was founded in 1869 in Lincoln, and currently maintains four campuses throughout the state, the Nebraska State College System, Nebraska Community and Tribal Colleges, Nebraska Independent Colleges and Universities, and Nebraska Private Career Schools

Nebraska's Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education (CCPE) is a state constitutional agency that implements policies for the state's public colleges and universities, authorizes academic programs, administers student financial aid programs, and researches and publishes reports on higher education within Nebraska.

  • Wayne State College (Wayne)
