The position, childcare specialist, is classified into three different groups based on where they work: private household workers, family child care providers and child care centers. Child care workers spend most of their day caring with children. In addition, they act as the maintain contact with parents or guardians to discuss each child's development and needs.

Skills needed for a child care worker are:

Every state has licensing requirements that monitor child care management training. The child care occupation has a promising outlook. Employment is projected to increase 11 percent, 2008-2018. The mean annual wage for child care workers in 2010 was $21,110. States with the highest employment level in this occupation include New York, California, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania.
