Ohio's oldest two-year institution, Sinclair Community College, was founded in 1887 as a YMCA college. The Ohio Association of Community Colleges works with the colleges and coordinates programs to fulfill the educational needs of the state, primarily in health care and engineering technology. Ohio community college students can choose terminal associate degrees as well as credits that transfer to four-year universities. Ohio is home to a number of community colleges, offering students the opportunity to pursue associate degrees and certificates at a low cost-per-credit, as well as to complete general education courses in preparation for transfer to a four-year school.
