Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is located right on the Gulf of Mexico in Corpus Christi. This beautiful school of about 10,000 students offers about 40 undergraduate degree programs and 30 graduate degree programs in a variety of subjects, ranging from athletic training to nursing. More than 70 percent of students receive financial aid.

Del Mar College is Corpus Christi's community college. A school of about 22,000 students, Del Mar College offers over 100 associate degree programs and 50 certificates in pretty much every subject you can imagine. The school even has several intramural sports and low tuition at just below $2,000 a year for district residents. Also in Corpus Christi is South Texas Vocational Technical Institute. There, students can tackle career training in areas such as air conditioning, automotive service teching, dental assisting, heating and refrigeration, and medical assisting. Tuition costs about $18,000 a year.

Corpus Christi economy

The main industries in Corpus Christi are education and health care, comprising a combined 25.1 percent of the workforce. A few of the companies in the top 15 major employers include Del Mar College, Corpus Christi Army Depot, and Driscoll Childrens Hospital. With most industries growing in the second half of 2011 and a relatively low unemployment rate (at 7.3 percent), things may be looking up for pursuing a career and education in this lovely town by the sea.
