Lima, Ohio Colleges and Universities

Lima, Ohio has made quite a splash on the world for being so small. A town of some 40,000 people, Lima is more than just the setting of the popular television show "Glee": it's also a hub for education and business.

Lima Colleges and Universities

Rhodes State College is located in Lima. A school of some 4,000 students, Rhodes State College offers 100 associate degrees, majors and certificates in subjects such as nursing and engineering technology. The college boasts high first-time pass rates for a number of licensing tests, such as nursing and dental hygiene, and low tuition costs, at $3,000 for the 2011-12 academic year. The University of Northwestern Ohio is also located in Lima. That university offers associate, bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as certificates and diplomas, in over 50 programs, ranging from marketing to automotive.

There are three other colleges in Lima, as well as seven other colleges within an hour's drive. The average in-state tuition and fees in Ohio for the 2011-12 academic year were $3,608 for public two-year colleges, $8,904 for public four-year colleges and $28,376 for private nonprofit four-year colleges.

A Glance at the Lima Economy

The main industries in Lima are education, health care and social assistance, making up over 20 percent of the workforce. Some of the major employers in Allen County -- the county Lima is located in -- are Lima City Schools, Lima Memorial Health System, Ford Motor Company and Nickles Bakery. Perhaps, the city's mission statement can help students determine if a career and education in Lima could be right for them: "We must make the City of Lima THE place to live and work in Northwest Ohio," the city's website reads.
