Sandusky is a city in northern Ohio that is home to more than 22 miles of shoreline within the city limits. From the Cedar Point Amusement Park to the Pipe Creek Wilderness Area, Sandusky, located in Erie County, offers diverse recreation and entertainment for its population of 25,000-plus permanent residents

Sandusky Colleges

Within the borders of Sandusky, the Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing trains aspiring health care professionals in the art and science of nursing. Offering RN, LPN to RN and RN to BSN programs, the Firelands nursing school can prepare students for stable and lucrative careers in the medical field. While annual tuition for such specialized education may run higher than the statewide average rate of $3,608 for two-year public institutions, the in-demand careers of the nursing profession could help offset education costs.

Bowling Green State University - Firelands offers 24 associate, eight bachelor's and two master's programs for students willing to travel a few miles up the road to Huron. BGSU - Firelands also offers four certificate plans and hosted a student body of 2,516 for the 2011-12 academic year. Tuition rates at BGSU - Firelands are relatively affordable, coming to approximately half of Ohio's yearly reported average of $8,904 for four-year public colleges.

Sandusky Economy

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers in Erie County enjoyed a 5.3 percent increase in average weekly wages between September 2010 and September 2011. What's more, despite falling employment rates in several Ohio counties, career opportunities in Erie County have been on the rise. Food service, office and sales occupations dominate the Sandusky economy, making up nearly 40 percent of jobs. Sandusky workers earned a mean annual wage of $35,000 in 2011.
